AllanTopol.Com: Allan Topol's Newsletter SEPTEMBER 2003

For my next novel, Conspiracy, to be released on January 6th, the publisher has developed a fabulous cover.

As you can see, the cover copy is compelling.

Equally important, the publisher, Penguin Putnam, is developing a significant marketing campaign for Conspiracy. The release date of January 6 was selected because the book focuses on a presidential campaign. The publisher’s tag line is, “Did the Presidential Candidate Commit Suicide or Was he Murdered?” The date of the Iowa caucus is January 19. The New Hampshire primary is January 27. Penguin Putnam’s plan is to widely distribute books in both places at these times.

I am finalizing plans for speaking appearances for Conspiracy in: Washington, D.C.; Baltimore, Bethesda and Rockville in Maryland; New York and Los Angeles. Further details will come in future newsletters.

Conspiracy also involves Japanese militarism. This is a subject I have studied at length following three visits to Japan. At this point, I don’t want to give away any more details for fear of exposing the plot.

In the meantime, Dark Ambition continues to sell throughout the country. The novel was prominently discussed in an article which appeared in the Capitol Hill newspaper, Roll Call, on June 2, 2003. This paper, published five times a week, enjoys a large circulation among people working in congress and those who lobby and deal with the Hill.

People continue to ask me how the characters in Dark Ambition were developed. Also attached is a copy of a speech I gave in Baltimore discussing Dark Ambition. It contains some of my thoughts.
